Magdalen Farm Strings is a well-established annual course for promising and enthusiastic young string players aged 9 - 16, who come together for a week of music making and fun.

The course takes place at Magdalen Farm, 130 acres of beautiful organic farmland, which is home to The Magdalen Environmental Trust www.magdalenfarm.org.uk  - an education centre and charity teaching about sustainability and environmental issues.  Magdalen is ideal for our purposes, with comfortable bunk-bedded accommodation for participants and plenty of indoor space for making music, as well as endless opportunities for exciting outdoor activities.

We are very fortunate to have the distinguished composer Colin Matthews as our patron. He composes a new piece especially for Magdalen Farm Strings each year. Colin Matthews was a judge at the 2010 final of Young Musician of the Year.

As a relatively small group with a family atmosphere, we are in a good position to take on board any suggestions for improvement and we introduce new aspects each year. We always have an outside visiting musician on one day during the course.

Several children have grown up with the course and are completely dedicated 'Magdalen Farm Stringers': but there are always plenty of new participants, who can be sure of a tremendous welcome from children and staff alike.

Please explore our website, which will we hope give you a good idea of what Magdalen Farm Strings is all about. We look forward to hearing from you!
